The Gyneco-Obstetrics and Pediatric Hospital of Yaounde abbreviated as HGOPY, is one of the fruits of Sino-Cameroonian cooperation. It is the will of the Cameroonian and Chinese governments to significantly improve the system of care delivery for women, mothers, and children in Cameroon. Thus, on October 26, 1993, the Head of State S.E. Paul BIYA signed in Beijing the credit agreement for the construction and equipment of a pediatric hospital in Yaoundé.
During the 4th China-Cameroon Mixed Commission, this project is transformed into a gyneco-obstetric and pediatric hospital. On May 7, 1998, the Prime Minister, head of government laid the foundation stone. On September 24, 2001, by Presidential Decree No. 2001/271, the Gyneco-Obstetrics and Pediatric Hospital of Yaoundé was created and inaugurated on March 28, 2002 by the Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon and the Chinese Vice Minister of Public Health. March 29, 2002, opening of the hospital to the patients with launching of a day of free consultations. Four services are functional: emergencies, resuscitation, clinical laboratory and radiology.
On 18 September 2003, Presidential Decree N ° 2003/260 appointed the very first Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer. On March 9, 2012, a new management team currently in office was appointed by Decree No. 2012/082 appointing the Chief Executive Officer and by Decree No. 2012/083 appointing the Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The first Board of Directors is set up by Decree No. 2012/081 of March 9, 2012, appointing the Chairman of the Board of Directors and by Decree No. 2012/241 of May 30, 2012 appointing the members of said Board of Directors.
